Telomeres and Cancer, New Cancer Treatments

The comparison between the different types of cancerous tissues with the normal with regard to genomic instability, shortening of the telomere and the expression status of telomerase indicates that the telomere problem is intricately associated with malignancy. It has become so significant in the cancer etiology studies that the measure of the length of telomere has been used as one of the routinely used biomarkers to understand the telomere dysfunctioning and the associated risk of cancer. There are enough evidences available to implicate the telomere length with cancer and hence it can be targeted for successful therapeutic approaches.

Pre-existing knowledge

There are available literatures to suggest that the telomere shortening and telomerase absence share a direct correlationship with increased cell divisions and as a result the cells senesce with a fixed number of multiplications. It has been suggested that crossing a threshold limit of shortened telomere length results in telomere repeat loss which is regarded as DNA damage cue and hence the decision to withdraw from cell cycle and resultant apoptosis. Accordingly, the role of the telomeres has been implicated to that of a biological clock determining the multiplicative lifespan of the cells. The study by the group of Bodnar further confirmed this theory when they introduced telomerase catalytic units into human fibroblasts lacking in telomerase and found elongation of the telomeres with an enhanced ability to replicate. The imposed restriction of cell cycle in these cells is maintained primarily by the tumor suppressors Rb and p53 which recognizes the DNA damage and halts its progression. It has been found that the cells transformed with viral agents like E1 or SV40T could bypass such regulation and undergo additional cycles of division although not indefinitely. Besides, the telomeres have been found to be active both in the germ line and stem cells but that in the somatic cells it isn't so.

Cancer diagnostics based on telomeres

Telomeres have now found its way into the field of cancer prediction and diagnostics. Recent advances in the field have made them more efficient and precise tools for use in that purpose. In a very recent work, it was proposed that repeats of single stranded DNA molecules C circles that constitute the telomeres can be highly significant in cancer prediction. It was found that higher positive C circles were observed in ALT positive human cells. The formation of diagnostic tools based on telomerases is likely to be more in use in the future.

Association between telomerase activity and cancer cases

Biopsies of 12 different types of human cancers demonstrated the existence of telomerase activity. Clinical data from patients with metastatic or primary cases of cancer indicates a dormant stage before an aggressive progression towards metastatic growth. Some studies have implicated the activity of telomerase with cancer dormancy. Recently, it was found that 73% of lung carcinoma patients (stages III and IV) and 72% of colon cancer patients have active telomerase by Gauthier and his colleagues. Stage IV breast cancer patients revealed similar results. Therefore, telomerase activity detection is a good indicator of cancer progression. While the telomerase-/- cells provides valuable insights into the stage of cancer dormancy, the positive cells can be useful in the prediction of the recurrence of the disease. On a more generalized form it has now been accepted that the shortening of the telomere limits the life of the normal cells and the telomerase activity can overcome this imposition of replicative restriction and make them immortalized. It becomes imperative to study the underlying mechanisms of the regulation of telomerase in order to target them in cancer cases.

Telomerase activation and cancer

Telomerase has become a hot target for cancer related therapeutic interventions considering the fact that it is expressed only poorly in normal cells while is required at an enhanced levels for the maintenance of telomeres for rapid cell proliferation that is associated with cancer progression.

However, with these pieces of evidences there may be high apprehensions regarding the use of telomerase activity enhancing supplements with respect to the increase in chances of cancer. The regulatory mechanism of telomerase activity is still very paltry to suggest a one-on-one relationship between cancer progression and the need of telomerase activity. Reports are also now accumulating for anti-aging related telomerase activity increment without increasing the cancer chances. According to a very recent report published in the EMBO Molecular Medicine, a group of researchers from Spain demonstrated that telomerase can be manipulated to increase longevity without the risk of cancer. There are also other arguments that favor the safe and effective use of telomerase activators. Scientists are of the opinion that although telomerase is needed for the maintenance of the rapid growth and proliferation of cancers, it has often been found to be mutated in a plethora of human cancers which are arguably more aggressive than the rest. Therefore, there needs to be valid comparison of the roles of the mutated and normal telomerase activity from the viewpoint of cancer regulation. There are also suggestions that the telomerase in the first place would try to maintain a healthy DNA away from damage that is not susceptible to cancer. Researchers are of the opinion that infact the activation of telomerase can be used to prevent cancer. Therefore, the active use of telomerase stimulators is quite valid and worth a try given the promise it holds in the rejuvenation of youth and the alleviation of a number of age and non-age related disorders in humans.

Hey! You Wanna Get Well or What?

Recently, I was speaking with a neighbor friend who has successfully battled cancer in her appendix. So, I sat down with her and asked her how she did it. This is the story she shared with me.

Sandy (name has been changed to protect her identity), was told she had cancer about a year ago. Thankfully, she was in the early stages of her dis-order so there was a lot she could do naturally. She opted to go with her doctor's suggestions and have surgery to remove a small cancerous tumor on her appendix. Once the tumor was removed she was told she was cancer free. What a relief, or so she thought. She was still feeling ill and her quality of life was not better. Going back to the doctor she realized that the other health issues she had before the cancer were still to blame for her physical condition. Sandy, had issues with her kidneys, parathyroids, tumors on her glands and hypertension. She was overwhelmed and did not know what to do. Her medications now numbered in the double digits to a total of 18!. Literally, being sick and tired of being sick and tired she cried herself to sleep.

The next day she decided she had to make a decision. Was she going to live or was she going to slowly die? Before answering that question, she thought, how did I get here? She took out a pen and paper and began to write. She wrote about her childhood at the hands of an unloving mother. The pain and shame of domestic violence at the hands of her third and final husband. Her 'Wasband' as he is called, was a drug addict who lied and stole from her quite often. Then there is her 'Wasband's' grandchild she is raising, at 14 she is the only mom he has ever known. Actually, she writes, "I need to mention my own children. Dealing with their selfishness and ungrateful attitudes really angers me!"

After about 3 hours of writing non-stop she realized that she wrote out her entire life on the pages that stared back at her. Reading the words she wrote she realized where her dis-ease was coming from. She passed on to her children and grandchild the same unloving traits she was exposed to as a child. She spent more time shopping than she did trying to love herself. She looked for the love her mom did not give her in places where it did not exist. Having realized this, she was relieved, yet, knew that now the real work of healing can begin.

She sought solace and support in the arms of her journal and her church. She did the work of healing herself so she could heal her relationships. Seeking guidance from her pastor and others with similar experiences she was able to see a little joy in her life. Funny thing began to happen, the more and more she began healing her emotional traumas, the better she felt. She then began changing how she ate to allow her body to fight off the tumors that grew as a result the emotional trauma she held onto for so many years.

Sandy is still cancer free, yet, her organs are slowly beginning to function better and the tumors are beginning shrink. Her quality of life is improving and slowly so are her relationships. "It has been a long and difficult road", she shares with me; "Yet, I am glad I choose to embark on this journey". "Sounds like you made the decision to live", I say to her. "No, I made the decision to heal. Then life just followed suit."

Why We Have Been Losing the War Against Cancer

The sun rises and the sun sets. It seems like the sun rotates around the Earth.

Cancer cells rise and are killed by surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. It seems like cancer is a disease.
The sun does not rotate around the Earth, and cancer is not a disease.

The many forms of cancer cells are the products of the disease neoplasia that can emerge in any of our organs and tissues.

When the normal cycles of life and death of our body cells go awry, unruly cells undergo neoplasia and become benign or malignant tumors... cancer. Although the forms of cancer cells vary widely, the underlying disease... neoplasia... is the same throughout the body. Neoplasia occurs when our bodies' immune systems fail to recognize and destroy aberrant cells.

If the "War against Cancer" organized in the late 1930s had become a "War against Neoplasia" when the latter was clearly identified as the process that produces cancer in the 1970s and 1980s, we may well have had cures for the many forms of cancer today. Words influence actions.

In 1963, Dr. Joseph H. Burchenal of the Sloan-Kettering Institute for Cancer Research pointed out that "It is unlikely that chemotherapeutic agents against cancer will be any more effective, unless there is some sort of an active immunological response that can be evoked." Antibiotics reduce the number of bacteria, but our immune systems are needed to cure the diseases they cause. The same principle applies to chemotherapy and cancer cells.

Following the theory affirmed by Burchenal, some scientists have been successfully studying what is called immunosurveillance and immunoediting as a counterpoint to the dominant "search for and destroy cancer cells" model. They are finding ways to help the immune system do its job through immunotherapy that prevents neoplasia. Michael Sporn, professor of pharmacology and medicine at Dartmouth Medical School, holds that the best strategy is to prevent neoplasia from entering the deadly stage of cancer in the first place.

For this reason in 2011, the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) declared in its report Accelerating Progress Against Cancer that "cancer research and patient care could be vastly more targeted, more efficient and more effective. But this vision is possible only if we transform the way cancer research is conducted."

On March 23, 2013, twenty-one oncologists pointed out in a New York Times editorial that "this year, more than 1.6 million Americans will receive a diagnosis of cancer. Their treatment will consume at least 5 percent of the country's health care spending, at a cost that is growing faster than all other areas of medicine. Doctors and patients recognize that this is unsustainable and that we need to change the way we deliver care." They added, "many expensive tests and treatments are introduced without evidence that they improve survival or reduce side effects, and with poor information about which patients should receive them."

After decades of neglect, immunotherapy finally was recognized appropriately at the 2013 American Association for Cancer Research meeting. In her plenary lecture, Dr. Suzanne Topalian of Johns Hopkins University said that despite the current dogma that cancer is a genetic disease, it also can be viewed as an immunologic disorder. She said, "In many ways the adaptive immune system is an ideal anti-cancer therapy." She affirmed in 2013 a concept first advanced in 1957 by Dr. Frank Burnet and reiterated in the 1980s and 1990s.

Fortunately, immunotherapy now can interrupt neoplasia that produces some forms of cancer cells.

Unfortunately, the dominant approach still is to "search for and destroy cancer cells" by surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. Research on immunotherapy also has been overshadowed by research that focuses only on the genes of cancer cells, which actually are constantly changing.

ASCO's 2011 report went on to say that, "if today's new understandings of cancer biology are to benefit cancer patients on a broad scale, they must be coupled with a modernized system for conducting cancer clinical trials."

As it now stands, clinical trials rely on prospective, randomized, controlled trials. For a lethal disease this approach is neither scientifically justifiable nor practical and guarantees that new information will have a 5- to 10-year lag while studies are constructed, conducted and interpreted.

The general public also is not served well by those who point to increased five-year survival rates as indicating significant progress in the cancer field. Millions of lives have been lost because of decades of misdirected and underfunded basic research.

A paradigm shift in the cancer field is needed based upon two fundamental principles of medical practice: 1) do no harm (chemotherapy destroys normal cells and suppresses the immune system with debilitating side effects) and 2) base research and treatment on diseases not on their symptoms or signs. Cancer cells are signs of an underlying disease: neoplasia. The variety of factors in cells and their microenvironments that induce and that fail to block neoplasia in organ systems and tissues should be the focus of research and treatment.

Words we use determine our perceptions and our actions. Simply fighting cancer by killing cancer cells is not enough and is gravely misleading.

Public awareness and pressure are needed to adequately fund cancer research and treatment focused on the underlying disease neoplasia.

Getting Prepared for a Cancer Journey - It's ALL About You!

This article is for and about you and as you begin your cancer journey.

The first step of the cancer journey relates to health concerns and beauty issues for you to evaluate. You will want to answer the following basic questions. The answers to these questions will help you make good choices for yourself.

Question 1 In what way will my body change with surgery and/or treatment?

Explanation - For some of you, surgery and/or treatment will not affect your external body a great deal. Perhaps your most bothersome external side effect will be generalized swelling that will call for looser fitting clothing and elasticized waistlines. Others of you will have external body altering surgeries and/or treatment. Be sure to utilize local resources available to you related to clothing, undergarments and special needs garments.

Question 2 Will I keep my hair, have partial hair loss or complete hair loss including eyebrows and eyelashes?

Explanation - Different treatments and drugs will dictate the amount of hair loss, if any, during your cancer journey. Ask your oncologist what to expect based on the treatment and/or drugs in your program. Think about what amount of hair loss ("alopecia" is the medical term) you will experience. Once you know the answer to this question, you will be able to make headwear choices that suit you, and know if you will need (and want) to consider replacement eyebrows and eyelashes.

Question 3 During what season(s) of the year will my surgery(s) and/or treatment be?

Question 4 What type of climate do I live in? Is it generally hot, cold or moderate during the months I will be having treatment?

Explanations for questions #3 and #4 - These questions are asking the same thing, but in a different way. For some of you, your treatment will take longer, so it is important to look at each of the seasons your treatment will span. If your treatment regimen is only going to span one or perhaps two seasons, your considerations will be different from those whose treatment regimens will span multiple seasons. I have first posed the question from the standpoint of what special days and holidays your treatment period will encompass. Consider whether your anniversary (what anniversary it is), birthdays (again what birthdays they are), work related conferences, special events and so on will take place during treatment. Although you may choose not to wear a wig for everyday, you may want to go ahead and get a wig for these special occasions. There will be additional things to consider such as the best clothing choices for your lifestyle and profession, whether false (prosthetic) eyelashes and eyebrows are something you are interested in trying and other image issues. Secondly, I am asking you to consider some different things if you live where it is going to be cool to cold the majority of your treatment time and you are going to lose all of your hair. The cold weather will dictate things like a sleeping cap for nights and warmer hats or a wig during the days. Conversely, if you live where it is warm to hot the majority of your treatment time, you may want to consider options to wigs for headwear. Wigs are very warm so lightweight scarves and cotton turbans may be a viable part-time or full-time alternative to a wig. Make your clothing choices based on both comfort and ease during treatment, keeping in mind the season(s) you will be having your treatment - whether surgery, chemotherapy, radiation or a combination of the above treatments..

Do not become overwhelmed with these questions and issues. At a time when most every part of your life is out of control, you can have control over these areas - so have some fun!

Question 5 What kinds of hairstyles look good on me? Do I wear my hair very short or do I like having a lot of hair around my face?

Question 6 Do I like hats?

Question 7 Am I a risk-taker with my wardrobe and accessories?

Question 8 Do I love simple, natural clothing or am I more dramatic?

Question 9 Do I always wear makeup no matter the day?

Explanations for questions #5 through #9 - This is a fun series of questions to ponder. That is because they are truly ALL about YOU!.

Think about what hairstyles you have gotten the most complements on over the years. Also, do you love to wear hats or just see other people wearing them? Your answers may lead you to choose a wig as your only type of headwear (if the other factors already considered are right) or hats, turbans and scarves instead. Wigs are beautiful, natural looking and safe emotionally because they offer a bit of privacy during your cancer journey. Hats, turbans and scarves are beautiful, and they make a bold, confident statement about how you feel about yourself. That is because, headwear choices other than wigs generally let others know that you are on a cancer journey. You will need to decide if you are comfortable with that.

Those of you who are risk-takers with your wardrobe and accessory choices love trends and the latest styles. The majority of you are more comfortable in classic styles of clothing and accessories. I am certain you are beginning to see some patterns in how you answer these questions. The more daring and dramatic you are the more you will be ready to make a "cancer treatment fashion statement". On the other hand, if you tend toward classic, you will choose things that are very similar to your pre-cancer journey outfits. Neither is right or wrong, they are simply your choice... isn't that wonderful?!

If you love very simple natural fabrics, patterns and accessories, and if you have chosen not to wear a wig, you will tend to choose scarves of soft cotton in solids or with a simple pattern. You will surround yourself with clothing, headwear and accessories that are not fussy and require no special care. I suggest everyone adopt a comfort policy during this time in your life even if you are most comfortable emotionally in dramatic, make-a-statement outfits. You can accomplish both of these at the same time, as you will see in chapter three.

I am certain some of you always wear makeup no matter the day. If makeup is as important to you as the clothes you wear, then you may want to take a few extra steps with your makeup during treatment. Look at your choices and choose a makeup regimen that will make you the happiest with your appearance!

Others of you choose to go sans makeup often. Makeup may elevate your mood during treatment, so you might want to choose a very simple makeup regimen during treatment. Make certain your skin gets the moisture and nutrition it needs whether you wear makeup or not.

Question 10 Will I work part-time, full-time or not at all during treatment?

Question 11 If I will work, will I be in front of groups of people on a regular basis?

Explanations for questions #10 and #11 - Generally, your care team will be advising you to try to lighten your workload, if financially feasible. For many of you not working during treatment will not be an option for you.

My purpose in posing this question is to have you think about work in terms of your work image. If your work demands you be in contact with many people on a daily basis in a professional atmosphere; a wig, false (prosthetic) eyebrows and eyelashes or a makeup regimen that includes using eyebrow stencils and eyelash techniques are as important as professional clothing. If however, your work situation keeps you behind the scenes you can choose how much or how little you want to do in terms of dealing with these beauty issues... and do not forget that whether you are in the limelight or behind the scenes, you will want comfortable, easy to care for clothing.

Question 12 Do I exercise moderately, aggressively or not at all?

Explanation for question #12 - The final thing you will want to consider before beginning treatment is your level of physical fitness. Do you exercise several times a week? Do you work out at a health club or are you a "do-it-at-homer"? Perhaps exercise is more of a hit-and-miss event for you? Maybe it has been years since you did any formal type of exercise. You will want to ask your doctor about exercise and the benefits it can offer you while you are going through cancer treatment.

Now that you have a good handle on your answers to these questions, you can start preparing for your journey. You are in the fight of your life, and for your life - being prepared, as much as possible, will allow you to focus on that fight with all your strength.

Cancer - The Big Boogie-Man

Have you ever wondered how someone gets cancer? If you answered yes then take comfort in the fact that the entire western medical world is wondering the same thing. None of the so called experts and highly trained doctors that you turn to have the slightest idea what causes cancer. Go ahead, ask them some time. What you get is a lot of "possibly this" or "maybe that" or some other non-specific comment. Why all the guessing? Because truthfully they don't know the cause of any disease. All these that participate in the medicine-man show only know what they have read in some book or been told by someone else. And where did that information come from? You guessed it, hand-me-downs again.

The first person I cured of cancer that had been diagnosed by a local medicine-man and his buddy the expert specialist, told them about me and what I had done. After they re-ran all their tests and found the cancer to be gone and not just gone but their exact comment was that it appeared like it had never been there, they never asked for my name, address, phone number or anything else. They just ushered the man out of their office and said good bye.

How is it that I can do what all these high-powered college trained medicine-men cannot?

First, I ignore and throw out all the antiquated and foolish ideas they perpetuate by passing false and biased data on to the next generation of upcoming medicine-men. Then, through training and practice I find the affected areas then find WHY they are affected. That's right; you have to know why these areas are susceptible to disease before you can cure anything. This is not only true for cancer but for any disease.

Why is this so important? Because once you know exactly what is causing the disease the root cause can be corrected and the body can once again maintain its own normal healthy state. This is exactly why your local medicine-man cannot cure anything. They never look for the root cause of the problem. They only treat the symptom by masking it. This is why they are so quick to hand out drugs. Drugs only fool you into thinking that the symptom is gone. Stop taking the drugs and you will quickly see the truth in this.

Truth be told, cancer is no more difficult to cure than any other dis-ease once you know the trick of finding the root cause of the problem. The local medicine-man can't find the cause because he doesn't know how to look. He trusts machines to do the diagnosing for him and as we all know machines are no better than the Â'personÂ' who built them. I have some real life horror stories about what happened to people who allowed themselves to be taken in by medicine-men reverently touting how fool-proof the magical machines they use to diagnose your symptoms are. And cancer, like all other diseases, is merely a symptom of what is causing the disease in the first place.

These medicine-men who swear an oath named after an old Greek called Hippocrates because they like to point to him as the "father of modern medicine" but refuse to follow his basic tenets when it comes to helping people. One of the basics that Hippocrates taught was that there is an emotional component to every disease. I completely agree by the way. But, when was the last time your medicine man even asked you whether or not you were mad at the neighbor down the street or if you were upset with your job? Not to say that he would know what to do with the information if he had it.

Start looking around for alternatives to the "snake-oil" salesman conducting your local medicine show. Stay with your medicine-man if that is what you feel most comfortable with but it would cost you nothing more than a little time and effort to check out alternatives to your medicine-man who has proven time and again that he cannot cure anything. Try this quick and easy experiment, Google the word "healing" on your computer and see how many medicine-men come up on the results.

Chemotherapy - A Cure Or A Poison

Chemotherapy was discovered near the end of the last world war after a ship that was carrying a nerve gas, which was mustard gas was bombed and many of the sailors died from exposure to the gas. It was found when autopsies were preformed that the rapidly dividing cells of the sailors who died had been affected. The connection between the chemical and cancer was made knowing that most cancer cells are also rapidly dividing. In 1946 the first chemotherapy agent was introduced and it was called nitrogen mustard.

Now days there are many other chemotherapy drugs in use, some used in combination as oncologists try to get better results. They are all designed to target any foreign growths with the hope of killing the bad cells and leaving the body's natural cells unharmed. Unfortunately these drugs cannot and do not distinguish between good cells and bad cells within the body and that's why people lose their hair and suffer from nausea and vomiting along with other serious side effects. These chemicals also depress the body's immune system which is our self repair system.

It is not difficult to get rid of cancer; the problem is to stop it coming back or spreading because that's when it becomes life threatening. Cancer in all cases is a disease of a weak immune system so how can it be cured by a therapy that further weakens the immune system? People today are dying not from the cancer but from the treatments, chemo destroys cells indiscriminately both good ones and bad ones. It's a poison and an expensive one.

There are many problems with introducing a foreign substance within the body and there are some serious side effects that most people are not being made aware of. For instance if someone who has undergone this treatment with chemotherapy survives for long enough, they could or will develop independent cancers that are a direct result from those earlier treatments. It is a fact that more cancer is a side effect of chemotherapy.

For most patients, chemotherapy represents a serious decrease in their quality of life due to the toxicity of most of the drugs used. Also, even for the common cancers where chemotherapy does have an effect the actual survival benefits are measured in weeks or months, not years. Also some of the side effects they experience can be life threatening.

There will never be a miracle cure for cancer but there has always been a way to overcome the disease. As mentioned earlier it is a disease of the immune system in all cases so common sense should tell someone, that the key to surviving cancer is to focus on strengthening this system.

Cancer has many natural cures but none of them involve putting a poison in your body. Treating cancer now days is a multi billion dollar industry and it's booming. Look whose making money out of it. Researchers have been searching for a drug that will cure cancer for nearly 40 years but they will never find one. Only nature has a cure and that means you have to turn to nature to solve the problem.

Understanding cancer and getting to the root cause of the problem makes much more sense than using a poison. A genuine cure for cancer has to come from within the body, not from someone applying a chemical treatment from outside the body.

Does Exercise Help Prevent Cancer?

Exercise could be considered to be one of the best alternative medicines known to man, something that can be self-inflicted upon the body by its owner as and when desired.

However, this being said and done, many of us do not realize the full potential that just a 30 minute daily workout (something which does not have to be done all at the same time) may actually bring to the body.

Not only does exercise give us a great looking body, but it also has other hidden benefits too. There are many theories as to these hidden benefits which are said to help prevent and conquer many diseases that are designed to damage and destroy the structure of the body's organs.

These theories include:

1. The immune system is strengthened with the use of exercise, which in turn may actually stop many forms of cancer in its tracks. It is considered that a strong immune system can fight off disease in general.

2. The excretory system, and intestine actions are greatly increased by exercise, resulting in harmful substances that enter the body being excreted faster, thus not giving sufficient time for cancer cells to develop and take a hold on the body.

3. Usually people who exercise tend to be more conscious about their life-style habits. These may include, maintaining a well balanced and healthy diet which in turn greatly cuts down the risk of over consumption that in many cases can cause obesity, and other health related problems. Obesity is a known contributor to the development of cancer.

4. Exercise also increases the blood flow to the heart, at the same time strengthening the heart's contractions so as it is able to pump blood around the body easier. This can be a major factor in combating heart related diseases.

Regular Exercise:

If one does not have time to go to the gym, then many exercises can actually be preformed while at work, on the way to work, or on the way back home, and may not actually need to infringe on one's daily life-style. For example:

1. Walking or cycling to and from work are great cardiovascular exercises that tend to keep down the obesity factor.

2. Taking the stairs instead of the lift to the second or third floor is another great exercise. If work is done on the top floor, then the lift can be taken part of the way until such times when the stairs can be taken all the way.

3. Shopping locally, as a walk to the shops together with carrying the groceries back home are also great exercises that will go towards the 30 minute daily routine.

So Yes! Exercise does actually help prevent many forms of cancer from developing.

Avoiding Drugs - Curing Cancer With Herbs - Part 1

Although there is no single herb that can cure cancer, there are various effective ones that are considered to help rid the body of certain types, including the detoxification of the body, and the ability to destroy cancer cells.

However, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) of the U.S.A. states that only "drugs" can cure a disease. Although this belief may be based solely on the fact that their curing powers "do not agree with modern-day scientific understanding."

The following herbs are considered to help either cure, or prevent cancer from developing -

1. Turmeric - is a brightly colored yellow spice derived from the Curcuma longa plant (a close family member to the ginger family), and a herb that has shown an excellent ability to retard breast cancer cells by helping to suppress the production of proteins that are needed for the uncontrolled growth of cancer.

Because of its active ingredient curcumin, that contains powerful anti-cancer and anti-oxidant properties, it has the ability to fight various aggressive forms of breast cancer by targeting the stem cells.

Powered turmeric is often administered in doses of less than 3.6g per day, heated in milk, and with a pinch of black pepper. While purified curcumin is often taken in doses of 1,200 to 1,800 mg per day.

2. Garlic - is known to inhibit the formation of carcinogen (any substance that is directly involved in causing cancer) within the body. Carcinogen is commonly found in pollution that is encountered in many cities, processed foods, char-broiled meats, and household cleaners, etc.

Studies on both animals and cell cultures (a complex process where cells are grown under controlled conditions) have shown that garlic helps reduce the growth rates of cancerous tumors, together with helping kill off cancer cells.

Rich in sulfur, garlic helps to detoxify the body, and has been used successfully to treat stomach, bladder, prostate and colon cancer. Although there is still no exact information on the amount of garlic required in each case.

3. European Mistletoe - being the only type of mistletoe that is safe to be consumed by humans (American mistletoe is highly poisonous) and that is widely used throughout Europe to treat cancer. It has active properties such as, lectins (carbohydrate-binding proteins) which have the ability to poison cancer cells and stimulate the immune system.

In previous studies, mistletoe extracts administered to animals showed they were able to prevent melanoma cancer from spreading to lung tissue by some 80%, and increase the immune system's killer cells by between 5-10%.

It has been effectively used to treat bladder, genital, and digestive tract cancer, and is usually administered through injection; however, mistletoe can also be taken orally, in powder form, or in a tincture (an alcohol-based derivative product of fresh herb) form.

Note: Doses are given only as examples previously used in cancer cases, and are not recommended to be taken as such without prior medical advise being given first.

Other herbs such as: Cat's Claw, Black Cohosh and Green Tea are discussed in "Avoiding Drugs - Curing Cancer With Herbs - Part 2" of this 3-part series.

Cancer, The Silent Killer

What is cancer actually?

It is something that is affecting millions of people in the world today. Caused due to abnormality in cells, it can be life threatening, if not treated properly. It is one of the most feared diseases and doctors are doing everything in their reach to help prevent and treat it completely.

What causes it?

As mentioned above, when the cells in the body do not function properly, they give rise to a tissue or mass of extra cells called tumors. If the tumor is malignant, you have reason to worry. These malignant tumors start destroying the organs in the body, and if not treated early can even result in death. If the tumor is not malignant, it may just be a benign tumor that is not life threatening. These can usually form in any part of the body.

What are the types?

Cancer can form in the bones, lungs, breast, pancreas, ovaries, and blood cells or even in the lymphatic system and are named accordingly.

What causes it?

It can be caused due to a variety of reasons. Some have a family history of it, while some develop it due to sunlight, radiation, smoking, bad lifestyle, viruses, ageing or simply some hormonal problems. Whatever the causes, it affects both men and women. It is not contagious and most of the time it is difficult to detect. Excessive intake of alcohol may also be an important cause.

What are the primary symptoms?

One of the most noticeable symptoms is rapid weight loss. Others include a lump in any part of the body, excessive bleeding, lethargy, difficulty in swallowing or a new mole in the body. Abnormality in bowel movements can also happen to some people, while some people have a mole that refuses to heal. If you have more than one of these symptoms, it is better to get it checked immediately as it can spread rapidly.

How can it be treated?

If it is detected in the early stages, it can be operated on and removed from the body. But there are always chances of it forming again. If it is detected in the later stages, radiation and chemotherapy are the recommended treatments. Other therapies include biological therapies and hormonal therapies. While some depend on allopathic treatments, some prefer the natural way. Meditation, natural herbs, homeopathic medicines and massages are preferred by some people. Cancer is not incurable, and new treatments are being discovered every day. Eating healthy and maintaining a good lifestyle can go a long way in preventing it totally.

Can Teflon Cause Cancer? Facts and Myths

First of all, it may be prudent to explain exactly what Teflon is. Teflon, is the registered trademark of a synthetic chemical known as polytetrafluorothylene (PTFE), and has been in commercial use since the 1940s.

As far as synthetic chemicals go, Teflon is an extremely resilient, almost frictionless, non-stick surface that is not only used within the cook-wear industry, but the fabric protector industry too. It is also a chemical that does not react to other chemicals which may come into contact with it.

Perfluorooctanoic acid ([PFOA] also known as C8), is another synthetic chemical that is used in the manufacturing process of Teflon. And although during the manufacturing process much of this chemical is actually burned off, still an insignificant (?) amount is actually left within the final product.

The problem is, this small insignificant amount of PFOA that does not get burned away in the manufacturing process, may actually still hold some type of health risk to its user, as PFOA does have the potential to be of a health concern.

Over the years, certain myths have been put in place actually touting Teflon as being a major health hazard, something that may actually cause cancer and other health related problems.

Studies show that PFOA can stay not just in the environment for long periods of time, but also in the human body, and although it is actually quite commonly found in the blood of most Americans albeit in low-levels, these levels do tend to increase significantly where drinking water has been contaminated by it.

So what does this actually all mean?

Well, when for example a Teflon coated pan is heated to 500 degrees of more, the small amount of PFOA that is still in the surface coating gets released into the air via smoke and gasses, and then inhaled. Although, to reach a degree of 500 or more would usually mean the pan got forgotten, and left on the hot plate to overheat.

If most Americans have a low-level of PFOA in their blood, is it harmful?

This depends, as lab studies on animals have found that exposure to PFOA does actually increase the risk of tumors of the liver, mammary glands, pancreas, and testicles. Although, there is still no certainty as to how PFOA actually causes these tumors, and if it would actually react in the same way in the human body.

However, studies that have taken place on humans only show that where over exposure to the chemical (usually with workers who are in daily contact with the chemical and where levels can be found to be as high as several thousand times more than normal) has occurred, a higher risk of bladder, kidney, and testicular cancer has been found.

So where does this leave the average household user of Teflon?

It would probably be wise to say, that in normal use, Teflon is quite safe to use, and the risks of developing cancer through its use would be quite remote. However, this being said and done, careless use of the product would almost certainly raise a degree of concern as to the possibility of this remoteness becoming a certain danger.

As with most products, when used with a certain degree of diligence, and in accordance with the manufactures recommendations, they are usually quite safe to use.

Cell Phone Use and Cancer

When a cell phone is used, it emits a radio-frequency energy in the form of a non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation which can be absorbed into the human tissues of the person that is using it. Although, the amount of this energy greatly depends on the technology of the phone that is being used at the time, the amount of use, the distance between the phone's antenna and it's user, and how far away the nearest phone tower is situated.

Radio-frequency energy (electromagnetic radiation) can be placed into two categories: ionizing (x-rays, radon, and cosmic rays), and non-ionizing (radio-frequency and power-frequency) where the exposure to ionizing radiation has been known to increase the risk of developing cancer.

Although studies have been made, the problem is that technology is constantly advancing, which makes not only researching the industry difficult, but almost impossible to gain conclusive results when studies are taken. Because of this, no consistent link has yet been made between cell phone use and cancer, such as: those associated with the brain, surrounding nerves, and nearby head and neck tissues.

However, one study did reveal that when a cell phone was used for 50 minutes or more, the brain tissues on the side of the head that the phone was used, metabolized more glucose than on the other-side. Although, these results are still in a preliminary stage, and are considered inconclusive as to what this metabolism actually means, or as to what effect it might have on a user.

For the development of cancer to occur, it is generally accepted that some kind of damage to the DNA structure must be caused first; however, there is no actual conclusive information resulting that non-ionizing (radio-frequency) energy is actually harmful to human beings. Known case studies tend to imply that non-ionizing energy has yet to cause the development of cancer in animals.

Other findings include:

1. Case-control studies where cell phone use was compared between two groups of patients with certain types of cancers and those without, and cohort studies where over a long period of time comparisons were made between the use of cell phones with cancer patients and the non-use resulted inconclusive.

2. A study conducted by a consortium of researchers from 13 different countries (considered to be the largest of its kind into the connection of cell phone use and cancer development) also yielded inconclusive results; however, it was noted that non-users of cell phones probable had a reduced risk of developing brain cancer.

3. A study in Denmark also yielded inconclusive results after more than 350,000 cell phone users were cross-examined from the Danish Cancer Registry for a brain cancer connection.

4. A study in the United Kingdom concluded that although the use of cell phones increased between the period of 1998 to 2008, no actual increase of brain related cancer or such were reported.

5. Various U.S. case-control studies including military studies taken on Navy technicians who were exposed to contact with radio-frequencies for long periods of time, also yielded inconclusive results.

Conclusion:

Reasons behind these constant inconclusive results, may include: the rapid advancement of technology, the change in which the technology is used, inaccurate information being applied to studies, inaccurate reporting, morbidity/mortality among study participants, and of course, detrimental findings connected to the cell phone industry simply not being released, or covered-up.

Therefore, there remains the possibility that a connection between cell phone use and cancer could be expected to be revealed within the coming years.

Anti-Cancer Effect of Royal Jelly

Cancer is a very common disease nowadays. The causes of cancer could be food, beverage, environment, inheritance and others. It is indeed a threat to human health and life. To avoid contracting cancer, one must live a healthy life. One must pay special care and attention to his lifestyle and food.

Royal jelly in its fresh or lyophilized form is a health supplement. One of the important benefits of it is that it is anti-cancer. It can prevent cancer or prolong the proliferation of cancer cells.

One of the precious ingredients in it is 10-Hydroxy-2-Decenoic Acid (10-HDA). 10-HDA cannot be manufactured artificially. It has profound effect in anti-cancer function. It exerts inhibiting effect, preventing both cell proliferation and migration.

There are many researches that show the evidence of the anti-cancer effect of royal jelly.

In an experiment, Japanese researchers fed it to mice before transplanting different type of cancers into them. It was found that the life of the mice was prolonged by 20%. The tumor cells disintegrated and they were 50% of the size of that in the untreated mice.

It is thus inferred that human sarcoma cells would be destroyed by the compounds in the royal jelly just the same as the sarcoma cells implanted into the mice.

A study was conducted on the Bulgarian beekeepers. It was discovered that the beekeeper population suffered 20% fewer cancer death than the Bulgarian population as a whole. This is attributed to the lifestyle of beekeepers who normally take royal jelly, pollen and honey. Beekeepers are often bitten by the honey bees which leave a substance called venom in their body. Venom is another substance which can prevent cancer.

Breast cancer is a threat to the middle-aged women. Bisphenol A (BPA) is an environmental estrogen that stimulates proliferation of human breast cancer MCF-7 cells. Royal jelly inhibits the growth promoting effect of BPA on MCF-7 cells and thus preventing women from suffering breast cancer (source: Effect of Royal Jelly on Bisphenol A - Induced Proliferation of Human Breast Cancer Cells by Nakaya M, Onda H, Sasaki K, Yukiyoshi A, Tachibana H, Yamada K, Biosci Biotechnol Biochem 2007 Jan 7).

In children with leukemia, it is effective in improving their general condition with increased appetite and weight gain.

The anti-cancer effect of royal jelly is prominent. Japanese people like to take it as a health supplement. As a result, Japan is well known for its people having the longest life span in the world.

Does Baking Soda Really Cure Cancer?

When alternative cancer therapies are thought of, it may be a bit of a surprise to think that something as simple a baking powder (bicarbonate of soda, sodium bicarbonate) that has hundreds of uses around the home may actually be a worthy contender. So why is it not widely touted as some miracle cure if it CAN actually cure cancer?

First of all, it must be acknowledged that the pharmaceutical industry is a multi-billion dollar industry that not only generates billions of dollars every year for itself, but also for local governments. So if it was common knowledge that something as simple as a $3 baking soda treatment could actually take the place of an industry $350,000 treatment, a devastating effect would be caused on the industry as a whole.

One of the major pioneers behind the alternative cancer cure theory using baking soda, is the Italian Doctor Tullio Simoncini, who believes that many forms of cancer (both local and remote) are of a fungi base, where the only remedy for their cure is therapy using sodium bicarbonate (baking soda). Although, these beliefs cannot be backed up by clinical trials, and relies solely on documented results of previous successes as evidence.

It is claimed that Simoncini has cured literally hundreds of cancer patients, primarily for throat, digestive tract, colon, rectal, intestine, and other cancers using sodium bicarbonate. Where the cancer has been caught early, and with a low incidence of metastasis (spread), 90% of patients have actually made a full recovery.

Because sodium bicarbonate is diffusible and holds no complicated structure, fungi can easily codify this fact, which in turn allows for the bicarbonate to rapidly disintegrate any mass (tumor) due to its ability to have a longer presence in situ, and the inability of the fungi to defend itself.

Strong doses of bicarbonate (500cc at 5% solution [a 20% increase or decrease may be applicable]) are continuously administered over a period of 7 - 8 days with zero tolerance of interruption, as masses of between 2 - 4 centimeters tend to begin to regress from between the third and fourth day, and collapse during the concourse of the fourth and fifth.

Although not all organs within the body can actually be reached by the bicarbonate due to the lack of sufficient dosage reaching its target, most of them can be. It is also worth mentioning that whilst treatment is being given to a particular area of mass within the body, other organs are not damaged in the process (as with traditional medicines) because of the harmless nature of the sodium bicarbonate, and no side-effects are experienced either.

Oncology: Spotting The General Signs Of Cancer

Certain circumstances may put you at increased risk of developing cancer. They aren't causes-in other words, they don't necessarily mean that you get cancer-but considering whether any of these risk factors may apply to you can help in assessing your symptoms:

1. Age: Many cancers become more common with age. Taking seriously any new symptoms that persist or that you can't explain (this warning of course also rings true if you're younger, but is particularly relevant if you belong to an older age group) is therefore important.

2. Family Past: You may be at bigger risk of cancer when cancer runs in your close family. This situation applies to some cancers more than to others, but if you develop symptoms of a particular cancer then mentions this family history to your doctor.

3. Previous Cancer: If you've had cancer in the past, a recurrence is possible. Even if you see your doctor for regular follow-ups or your regular reviews stopped a while ago, take any unusual and persistent symptoms seriously and seek medical advice.

4. Smoking: Smoking augments the risk of developing certain cancers, most prevalent lung cancer but also cancer of the cervix and bladder. Time to pack in the cigarettes!

5. Toxins: Some industrial and occupational exposures may increase the risk of cancer. For example, certain chemicals increase the risk of bladder cancer, alcohol can lead you to develop chronic liver inflammation that can eventually lead to liver cancer, and exposure to asbestos dust in the past puts you at higher risk of developing a certain type of lung cancer.

In addition to being aware of any possible risk factors that may apply to you, consider your symptoms. Cancers can cause a host of symptoms, most of which develop gradually over weeks and months, although sometimes the symptoms start acutely, particularly if a tumor is growing relatively fast. Consider the possibility of cancer if you notice any of the following:

1. Fever and Night Sweats: These symptoms are particularly common with (such as leukemia), although of course fever is much more commonly due to an acute infection (perhaps in connection with a cough or a sore throat) rather than cancer.

2. Nausea and Vomiting: Persistently feeling sick and vomiting may occur with cancers of the stomach but also with other malignancies such as a brain tumor. However, non-serious stomach problems are usually much more likely.

3. New, Unusual and/or Persistent Symptoms: You develop a new, unusual, unexpected, persistent or worsening symptom 'out of the blue' for no apparent reason and are unable to explain it.

4. Swollen Lymph Glands: Lymph glands (located, for example, on your neck, in your armpits and in your groins) tend to swell up during certain infections, but if one or more of your glands stays swollen for more than two weeks (particularly if they don't hurt), or they gradually get bigger, this can potentially be a sign of a cancer of the lymph glands (known as lymphoma) or one that has spread from elsewhere in your body.

5. Tiredness: Persistent tiredness is a common symptom of many cancers (particularly blood cancer types), but can also occur due to anemia caused by blood loss from cancer of the stomach or the intestine (for more on anemia, check out the earlier section 'Experiencing constant tiredness'). But remember that tiredness is in most cases due to other and much less serious causes.

6. Weight and Appetite: Consider the possibility of cancer if you lose weight for no apparent reason over a period of weeks or months-with or without reduced appetite. Some cancers can make you lose your appetite, whereas in others you feel hungrier.

None of the aforementioned symptoms essentially mean that you have cancer, but they can do particularly if they don't go away-and so seek medical advice sooner rather than later if you're concerned.

TLR2 Antibody - A Transmembrane Cell-Surface Receptor

TLR2 antibody - Toll like receptor 2, which is also known as TLR-2, or CD282 is a transmembrane protein that is encoded by the TLR2 gene. This surface protein is present on a number of leukocytes, white blood cells, such as macrophages, microglia, schwann cells, dendritic cells, B-cells and T-cells.

This transmembrane protein plays an important role in the recognition of foreign bodies and the innate immune response to those pathogens. Toll receptors are activated by highly specific pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs), which are specific to bacterial, fungal, viral and certain endogenous substances. As a result, the TLR2, which are single pass trans-membrane cell-surface receptors, are a key function in the activation of innate immunity.

In most cases, the interaction between receptor and PAMPs will result in the phagocytosis of bound molecules and in cellular activation. This will activate macrophages in addition to dendritic cells to assume non-specific immune defense and cytokine release. Moreover, it will activate B-cells to begin antibody production and formation of pathogen specific antibodies.

Toll like receptors (TLR) are well preserved from drosophila to humans and are structurally and functionally similar. They both recognize pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs), which are expressed on infectious agents. It then creates cytokines, which are necessary for the progress of efficient immunity. Consequently, the mixture of different TLRs exhibits different patterns of appearance.

TLR2 is one of the most important receptor of the innate immune system and is an element of the defense against microbial organisms. TLR2 is activated through both internal and external signals (microbial cell wall components). The TLR2 has an important function in pathogen detection for inflammatory conditions that include ischemia reperfusion injury, cancer, autoimmune diseases, diabetes, and is relevant to Alzheimer's disease.

One of the most common neurological diseases is Alzheimer's, which is the most common form of dementia and accounts for up to 80% of all cases. The symptoms cause problems with thinking, memory and behavior and usually develop over time in old age, and eventually start to have negative consequences on daily lives. The majority of people with Alzheimer's disease are 65 and over. They will ultimately not have the capacity to have a dialogue with anybody such as family or friends, and unable to react to their environment. Therefore, it could potentially lead them into dangerous situations if the proper care or treatment was not provided for them. Those that are unfortunate to be diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease live on average eight years after they are diagnosed, although this can depend on their health conditions. Moreover, Alzheimer's disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States of America. Thus, TLR2 antibodies have become a staple of any research lab investigating causes and possible treatments for this devastating disease.

The antibody can be tested on a range of applications such as WB (western blot), IHC-P (immunohistochemistry), and P-ELISA. This is used to test the antibody on a large selection of model species such as mouse, rat, sheep, cow, dog, chicken, pig, and Human.

P53 Antibody - The Multi-Cellular Organism

P53 antibody - P53, also identified as tumor protein 53, is a tumor suppressor protein that is encoded by the TP53 gene in humans.

The gene is highly conserved in vertebrates with sequences found in invertebrates showing only a distant resemblance to mammalian forms of the gene. P53 is crucial in multi-cellular organisms where it plays a crucial role in DNA damage repair and anticancer function. During the DNA synthesis phase of cellular division in the event of DNA damage P53 is activated. P53 arrests the cell cycle in the S-phase of the cycle and activate DNA repair proteins to repair any damages before allowing the cell cycle to continue. Moreover, P53 can also initiate apoptosis, programmed cell death, if DNA damage cannot be repaired, preserving genomic stability.

Additionally, it also becomes active if factors such as stress, (osmotic) shock, and deregulated oncogene appearance occur. P53 also functions in the inhibition of angiogenesis, which is the formation of new blood vessels that is crucial in the growth and metastasis of cancer and tumors.

The mouse monoclonal antibody can be used to visualize the P53 tumor antigen quantities in a broad selection of transformed cells. In addition, the protein is visible in many dynamic proliferating non transformed cells.

However, it is undetectable or present at low levels in resting cells. This protein induces cell cycle arrest or apoptosis in response to sublethal or severe DNA damage, respectively, by differential transcription of target genes and through transcription-independent apoptotic functions. The P53 protein contains 393 amino acids, and the human P53 tumor antigen is located at band 17p13.

P53 mutations or deletions play a crucial role in the development of cancer, as well as cancer diagnostics and research. P53 malfunctions are common in pancreatic cancer, in addition to Li-Fraumeni syndrome. Li-Fraumeni syndrome is caused by the damage in the P53 tumor suppressor gene. If an individual is diagnosed with this syndrome then they are 25 times more likely to develop a malignant tumor by the age of 50. This syndrome is characterized by several different cancers i.e. breast cancer, and acute leukemia. Diagnosis of Li-Fraumeni syndrome includes if the patient has been diagnosed with sarcoma below the age of 45, which is a cancer that arises from transformed cells of mesenchymal origin. Other possible developments can lead from first or second degree family members that have had cancer at a young age.

Recommendations for Li-Fraumeni syndrome includes avoiding radiation therapy, which can diminish the risk of secondary radiation induced malignancies. In addition, other prerequisite proposals that have to be done to prevent Li-Fraumeni syndrome are annual physical examination, for women to start breast cancer monitoring from age 25, and to consult with a physician if any illnesses or symptoms arises.

The P53 antibody host is from a mouse, and can be tested on other species for research use only. The P53 antibody can be tested on a range of applications, such as WB (western blot), IHC-P (immunohistochemistry), and P-Elisa.

There Are Other Ways To Treat Cancer Which Work

Cancer, no matter where it appears within the body is only one disease and all cancers have common causes. The reasons why it appears are because of our unnatural lifestyle; especially our diet which has allowed our immune system to stop working effectively and this has allowed cancer cells to flourish. Common sense should tell you that the top priority is to strengthen this very important system so it can remove these foreign cells naturally.

We have all been brainwashed into believing that surgery, radiation and chemotherapy are the only way to treat cancer as we are all educated about it from newspapers, the television and doctors. It's because the people who profit from the treatments control the industry. Unfortunately anything to do with cancer is money orientated and this is why we only have treatments that seldom solve the problem.

There is little point in just removing cancer growths because it will only reappear again in some other area if you haven't corrected the reasons why it appeared in the first place. If it returns it will then be secondary cancer which is far more serious because it's secondary cancer that kills people. What needs to be done is to find the reasons why it first appeared and remove those reasons. That means making serious lifestyle changes to allow the body to fight the cancer naturally.

It is not difficult to learn about cancer. The way to overcome it is to understand what has caused it so then you will understand the changes that are necessary. The body itself can remove the cancer if you go about it the right way and you don't need a doctor to help you with that. Our medical care system has been keeping us ignorant about the disease and that keeps people from thinking that they could help themselves.

The reason why there is so much cancer now in western developed countries is because of the way we are living. It has changed over the last 50 to 60 years and of course the increase of cancer has paralleled this change. Most of the blame on the increase is because of the discovery of electricity and especially crude oil which has allowed us to lead a more sedentary lifestyle. We don't get the exercise we use to which is part of the problem and more importantly the food we are now eating has changed as most of us are eating processed food.

You don't need to become a recluse and live in the bush to overcome cancer but you do need to change the food you eat to foods that are fresh or more natural. Our health is directly related to the food we eat. The human body also needs some exercise because the immune system needs exercise to function properly. It can't function properly without it. Also we are all using chemicals, many of them unwittingly and we don't realise the harm they are causing us.

There is no quick and easy way to overcome cancer and there is certainly no magic cure but there is a way. You need to educate yourself about the factors that have caused it and make some serious lifestyle changes. They do work and of course no one can profit from the changes you make, unlike the treatments that mainstream medicine use.

What you need to achieve is to change your internal environment to one that creates health and not cancer.

Surviving the Holidays

Navigating Christmas, New Years and all the festivities they bring with them can be a real challenge during cancer. I thought I would give some general information along with helpful hints and tips with the hope of making your holidays brighter. Much of the information will be a review - but nonetheless information that bears repeating.

It is very important to make simple changes in how you approach the next few weeks. This year IS NOT like all the other years. Be content to accept that - and not be hard on yourself because you do not make all the goodies you usually do OR you don't manage to get the Christmas letter and cards out in time - or at all.

You can make new memories this year! Some of the things you do differently this year may become traditions. Ask your husband, children or friends what one goodie they love the most that you make and then incorporate their help in making it. You will still have the joy of baking and sharing it with those you love without the undo stress and exertion required to make many different recipes. How about sending Christmas e-cards this year? You can take a few moments and design a simple one with a personal message, if you have the software and already know the program or choose a card from one of the free e-card websites. Just type "free e-cards" into your search bar. If these things are just too much for you to handle right now - sit back and learn to delegate duties more and be willing to accept the offers family and friends make to lessen your load physically and mentally.

With all the holiday parties and festivities, be extremely cautious not to compromise your health further when you are around large crowds. The best choice is to stay away from such functions just for this year. Instead, choose a couple of friends to invite in for a cup of hot chocolate and some board games. (Make certain each guest understands they are no longer invited if they develop a cold or come down with the flu.) But, if you must attend a function, take these precautions. Instead of shaking hands simply smile genuinely and verbally tell the person how nice it is to see them - or meet them. If the function is formal - make a beautiful pair of gloves part of your wardrobe for the evening and then you can shake all the hands you want. Use the same hand every time you shake so that you can remove just that one glove when handling food or a beverage or when touching your face in any way. If you are in a group of people you are comfortable with - and who are aware of your cancer journey - you can wear a mask to protect yourself. Have some fun with it if you like and try painting a pair of lips on it. You will find that when others perceive you are OK with your cancer journey they will be much more comfortable and willing to spend time talking with you about what you are experiencing. So, be the life of the party - all the while being cautious.

Finally, do one fun and simple thing you have never done before. That way you will always remember the year you did it, or the first year you did it - if it becomes a tradition.

Top 5 Anti-Cancer Tips Unveiled: How To Prevent And Fight Cancer

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death today and it consequently brings dread to the heart of the people who are diagnosed with it. This disease generally develops over many years and there are various reasons that increase your risk of getting it. Thankfully, there are quite a few things you could do to prevent and fight cancer, according to current health news. It is an understatement to say that this will save you a great deal of pain and money, and even your life.

The top 5 anti-cancer tips you should follow are:

1. Follow the right diet: Eat dark green vegetables for the magnesium they contain. Magnesium helps prevent cells replicating unnecessarily. Calcium, contained in dairy products, helps prevent the development of certain types of precancerous cells. Fruits and vegetables contain lots of anti-oxidants that help maintain your body's immunity.

2. Stay away from products containing tobacco: Whether you smoke or chew it, tobacco has the ability to irritate the cells of the body that it comes in contact with. There is a strong correlation between tobacco use and cancers of the lung, oral cavity, esophagus and stomach etc.

3. Never neglect any unusual pain or bleeding: Any changes in how the body functions can indicate the presence of cancer. You should get a doctor to examine you in order to eliminate cancer as a possible cause. In fact, if you can detect the cancer as early as possible then you have a good chance of defeating it by starting the best possible treatment protocol.

4. Lose at least 10-15 pounds: This is especially relevant if you are a woman because excess fat cells increase the body's production of female hormones. When the body is loaded with these hormones there is increased risk of getting cervical, breast, ovarian, endometrial or pancreatic cancers. Even men are at greater risk of getting cancer if they are overweight.

5. Reduce your exposure to radiation: Try to avoid getting x-rays and scans unless they are absolutely necessary. You should also avoid talking on your cellphone for extended periods because certain studies indicate that prolonged exposure to microwaves can result in malignant brain tumors.

It is best to maintain a healthy lifestyle in all possible ways because this will reduce your cancer risk. You will also be able to get better results from your cancer treatment if you take good care of your health by eating healthy food and avoiding substances such as alcohol and tobacco.

Frankincense: Then and NOW

Why Frankincense today?

Today, we know through Chemistry that Frankincense contains sesquiterpenes. Sesquiterpenes are found naturally in plants and insects. Sesquiterpene molecules deliver oxygen molecules to cells, like hemoglobin does in the blood. They can also erase or deprogram miswritten codes in the DNA. They are thought to be especially effective in fighting cancer because the root problem with a cancer cell is that it contains misinformation, so sesquiterpenes can erase that garbled information. At the same time the oxygen carried by sesquiterpene molecules creates an environment where cancer cells can't reproduce.

Hence, sesquiterpenes deliver cancer cells a double punch that disables their coded misbehavior and a second that stops their growth. They are also known to stimulate the part of the brain that controls emotions. It also helps the hypothalamus, pineal and pituitary glands that produce many of the important hormones in our body. Over all it helps strengthen the immune system by increasing leukocyte activity.

BCL2 Antibody - Inducing Apoptosis

Bcl2 antibody - The Bcl2 gene plays an important role in a large assortment of cellular activities, in particular the regulation of cell death. This is facilitated by including or repressing apoptosis based on environmental stimuli.

Bcl2 plays an important role in the regulation of cell death, either inducing or repressing apoptosis based on environmental effects. Consequently, because of the apoptotic regulation, Bcl2 plays an important role in cancer research, cancer diagnostics and regulation of immune cells. BCL2 gene damage has been identified as a cause of a number of cancers, including melanoma, breast cancer, prostate cancer, lung cancer and certain types of leukemia.

A damaged BCL2 gene is also the cause of resistance to a number of cancer treatments. Therefore, Bcl2 antibody can be used in immunohistochemistry to distinguish cells that contain the target Bcl2 antigen. The antibodies usually react inside healthy tissues with B cells in the mantle zone, in addition to some T cells. In cancer tissues there is a substantial increase in the number of positive cells in follicular lymphoma and several other forms of cancer. On occasions, the presence or absence of Bcl2 staining in biopsies could perhaps be vital for the patient's prognosis or the probability of a relapse.

The primary function of Bcl2 is to induce apoptosis; it does so by inducing the release of cytochrome c to begin the apoptotic cascade. Therefore, malfunctions in whichever of the Bcl2 gene or in the apoptotic cascade may possibly lead to damaged cells by missing the signal to shut down. Cancer possibly occurs as the result of an imbalance between cell death and cell growth. Anti-apoptotic protein expression and under expression of pro-apoptotic genes can, and often do, result in the lack of cell death that is characteristic of cancer. Apoptosis is very important in immune system regulation, destroying immune cells that recognize self-antigen, possibly aiding in the prevention of harmful autoimmune diseases such as Lupus and Type 1 diabetes.

The Bcl2 antibody can be used in IHC-P (immunohistochemistry) to distinguish cells that contain the target Bcl2 antigen. The antibodies usually react inside healthy tissues with B cells in the mantle zone, in addition to some T cells. Conversely, in cancer tissues there is a substantial increase in the number of positive cells in follicular lymphoma and several other forms of cancer. On occasions, the presence or absence of Bcl2 staining in biopsies could perhaps be vital for the patient's prognosis or the probability of a relapse.

In a trial experiment the expression of Bcl2 antibody in skeletal muscles could potentially play a role on surviving muscle fibers. As the control muscles was generally positive in the nuclear membrane and cytoplasm in type 2B fibers. This experiment was conducted by using 178 biopsied human pathologic muscles and 10 control muscles by the ABC process.

The antibody can be tested on a range of applications, for instance WB (western blot), IHC-P (immunohistochemistry), and P-ELISA. This is used to test the antibody on a large assortment of model species such as mouse, rat, cow, dog, chicken, pig, and Human.

TGF Beta 1 Antibody - Controlling Many Cellular Functions

TGF beta 1 antibody - Transforming Growth Factor (TGF) beta 1, also known as anti-Camurati Engelmann disease antibody, is a polypeptide member of the Transforming growth factor beta super family of cytokines. Transforming Growth Factor 1 is a secreted protein that performs many cellular functions such as controlling cell growth, proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis as well as a key role in wound healing and healthy cartilage maintenance.

The Transforming Growth Factor β 1 protein is found throughout the body and plays a role in development before birth, the formation of blood vessels, the regulation of muscle tissue and body fat development, wound healing, and immune system function. In addition, it interacts with several types of leukocytes such as T-cells, B-cells, macrophages and monocytes and plays a key role in the control of the immune system; most of the cells this cytokine regulates also secrete it. Accordingly, a lot of cells have TGFB receptors, and the protein positively and negatively regulates many other growth factors. T.G.F. β 1 is particularly abundant in tissues that make up the skeleton in addition to the extracellular matrix, highly expressed in bone and abundantly expressed in articular cartilage and chondrocytes.

Some T.G.F. β 1 gene mutations are acquired during a person's lifetime and are present only in certain cells. These uninherited somatic mutations in TGF beta 1 gene cause alterations in the expression of the TGF β 1 protein and are associated with certain types of cancers as well as certain bone disorders. The altered protein expression may enhance several cancer related events such as proliferation, cell motility, and the development of new blood vessels that nourish a growing tumor. The TGF beta 1 protein is over expressed in certain types of prostate cancers. Altered Transforming Growth Factor beta 1 expression has also been found in breast, colon, lung, and bladder cancers. Additionally, research has shown that the TGF beta 1 antibody can operate as a biomarker and an analeptic target for cardiovascular disease, also known as heart disease. This means, using the TGF beta 1 antibody can help individuals that suffer from heart disease to determine the severity of their condition.

Aberrant Expression is also implicated in osteoarthritis, a degenerative joint disease leading to joint pain, tenderness, locking and sometimes joint effusion (increased amount of intra-articular fluid). This form of arthritis is the most common and the leading cause of chronic disability in the United States, and is affecting millions in both the United Kingdom and the United States.

Defects in T.G.F. β 1 are the cause of Camurati-Engelmann disease (CE); also known as progressive diaphyseal dysplasia 1. CE is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by hyperostosis and sclerosis of the diaphyses of long bones. The disease typically presents in early childhood with pain, muscular weakness and waddling gait, and in some cases other features such as exophthalmos, facial paralysis, hearing difficulties and loss of vision.

The host of TGF beta 1 antibody is a rabbit, and is for research purposes only. The tested applications are WB (western blot), IHC-P (immunohistochemistry), and P-Elisa.

Sclerostin Antibody - Bone Overgrowth From Mutations

Sclerostin antibody - Sclerostin is a secreted glycoprotein with a protein sequence similar to the bone morphogenic protein antagonist family. The protein is encoded by the SOST gene in humans. It is produced by the osteocyte and down regulates osteoblastic bone formation.

Recently, sclerostin has been implicated in the inhibition of Wnt signaling leading to attenuated bone formation and growth, acting as a stop signal to decrease bone formation by osteoblasts. Mutations in sclerostin are a result from early stop signals during protein production, leading to uninhibited Wnt signaling and bone overgrowth. The mutations in this process can lead to a range of diseases, such as type II diabetes, breast and prostate cancer.

Production of this protein is inhibited by parathyroid hormone, leading to enhanced release of the calcium from the large reservoir contained in the bones, indirectly stimulating bone resorption by osteoclasts, and various other cytokines. Production of this protein is stimulated by calcitonin, a hormone which acts to reduce blood calcium levels that acts in opposition to the parathyroid hormone.

Bone remodelling is the process by which the adult skeleton is continually renewed through the highly coordinated activity of three types of cells, which are osteoclasts, osteoblasts, and osteocytes. Disruptions in signalling among these cells and alterations in their activity have been associated with skeletal diseases such as 'van Buchem disease'.

Mutations in the sclerostin gene are associated with the autosomal-recessive disorder called sclerosteosis, in addition to other disorders characterized by bone overgrowth. Sclerosteosis is a rare disorder characterized by bone over growth primarily in the skull, mandible and long, tubular bones. Individual affected with this homozygous disorder have no detectable levels of circulating sclerostin. However, heterozygous individuals for the mutations express the normal phenotype and normal lifespan, with dense bones and a low risk for fracture. This observation has led to the development of a novel strategy to emulate the heterozygous mutational state as an effective treatment for bone loss disorders such as osteoporosis.

Sclerostin is the subject of key research into both bone overgrowth and bone loss. As Sclerostin antibody could potentially increase bone formation significantly without effecting bone resorption and enhance bone strength. Thus, sclerostin antibody can potentially alleviate osteoporosis disease, this occurs when bones become fragile and more likely to fracture.

This has been established in numerous clinical trials in rats, monkeys, and in humans. It has been recognized that the absence of the sclerostin protein leads to bone overgrowth. Whereas an excess amount of sclerostin leads to bone loss and reduced bone strength. This was proved in various trials, for instance the trial on a six month old female rats was a success. Once the sclerostin antibody was administered, it quickly created an increase in bone formation on trabecular, periosteal, endocortical, and intracortical surfaces. For the human clinical trials, it was a success in healthy men and postmenopausal women (72 targets), as the antibody was tolerated well, which was the palpable primary goal. Additionally, the targets had augmented bone density for hip fractures and in their spine. Methods to increase bone in humans have long been sought. The bone formation axis controlled by sclerostin may provide an important new strategy to accomplish this. Thus, Sclerostin asserts itself as a prime therapeutic target to address bone disorders. The modification of its activity or expression offers an exciting possibility for the development of new drugs for the treatment of disorders associated with bone loss.

This antibody is for research use only and can be used on the following applications, WB (western blot), IHC-P(immunohistochemistry), and P-ELISA.

TNF Alpha Antibody - A Cell Signaling Protein

TNF alpha antibody - The TNF (Tumor Necrosis Factor) Alpha is a multifunctional pro-inflammatory adipokine, a cell signaling protein secreted by adipose tissue, involved in systemic inflammation and stimulation of the acute phase reaction. It is is a potent lymphoid factor that exerts cytotoxic effects on a wide range of tumor cells and certain other target cells. This protein is primarily produced as a type two transmembrane protein arranged in stable homotrimers. This membrane bound form of the protein is then proteolytically cleaved into the secreted form of TNF alpha, both the secreted and membrane bound protein are biologically active. The adipokine can bind two TNF receptors. The first receptor is expressed in most tissues and can interact and be activated by both forms of the TNF protein. While, in contrast, the second TNF receptor is only found in immune cells and respond to the membrane bound form of the TNF protein.

While is can be secreted by many cells types, including CD4+ lymphocytes, natural killer cells and neurons; this adipokine is produced primarily by activated macrophages. TNF alphas primary role is the regulation of immune cells. The adipokine is also an endogenous pyrogen and is able to induce fever both directly and via stimulation of interleukin secretion, apoptotic cell death, cachexia (wasting syndrome), inflammation and tumorigenesis (carcinogenesis) and viral replication inhibition. TNF alpha has been implicated in a variety of illnesses, such as cancer, insulin resistance, and autoimmune diseases.

Tumor Necrosis Factor promotes an inflammatory response to remove harmful stimuli, which include damaged cells, irritants, or pathogens, and then begins the therapeutic process. The inflammatory response is generally in response to a foreign pathogen but in some cases, excessive inflammation may be indicative of an autoimmune disease and other disorders. Some examples of autoimmune diseases are ankylosing spondylitis (chronic inflammatory disease of the axial skeleton), Crohn's disease (inflammatory bowel disease), psoriasis (lifelong condition that affects the skin), hidradenitis suppurativa (skin diseases) and asthma (known as refractory asthma, if the symptoms persist long-term).

Additionally, TNF alpha can be a gateway to provide a biological therapy to patients as it is a proinflammatory cytokine that has been implicated in many aspects of the airway pathology in asthma, and can potentially be a significant factor in refractory asthma (persistent symptoms). This is completed by inducing either an increase in resistance or a decrease in driving pressure. As a result, TNA alpha antibody can be used as a therapeutic option for patients by increasing the resistance of the autoimmune disease, which will increase airway responsiveness.

The biotechnology industry is the operation of biological processes for scientific reagents and for other scientific functions. Fundamentally, biological reagents are mechanisms that are used in biochemical analysis to assess biological processes. It can be used to produce antibodies that are used to target a particular protein target, which are known as antigens.

The host of the TNF alpha antibody is a rabbit, and it reacts withhuman, mouse and rat. The antibody can be used on the following applications, WB (western blot), and IHC-P (immunohistochemistry).
